Artificial Intelligence (AI) Disclosure Policy

Last updated 1/4/2025

The Infectious Diseases Journal of Pakistan (Infect Dis J Pak) acknowledges the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research and academic writing. This policy establishes guidelines for authors, emphasizing transparency and ethical use of AI in the creation of submitted manuscripts.

AI-Assisted Technologies Disclosure

Upon submission, authors must declare if they utilized any AI-based tools, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), chatbots, image generators, or comparable technologies, in creating their work.

Author Responsibility

When using AI-assisted tools, authors must ensure their work is accurate, truthful, and original. AI, including chatbots like ChatGPT, cannot be named as co-authors since they cannot uphold these key responsibilities of authorship.

Submission Requirements

Researchers utilizing AI tools must offer a detailed explanation of how these technologies were used, both in their cover letter and the manuscript. This should clarify the exact contributions of AI in conducting the research and drafting the paper.

Prohibition of AI as an Author

AI tools, including chatbots and AI-assisted systems, should not be named as authors or co-authors. Being an author involves upholding accuracy, integrity, and originality, responsibilities that AI cannot fulfill.

Review and Editing by Humans

Writers utilizing AI must carefully examine and revise the content it produces. Although AI tools are advanced, they can generate misleading, partial, or biased text that appears credible. Human authors bear the duty of ensuring accuracy and improving the final output.

Plagiarism Check and Attribution

Authors need to declare that their work is plagiarism-free, covering both written content and AI-produced visuals. It is their duty to properly cite all referenced material, ensuring full acknowledgment of any content generated using AI technologies.

Attribution in Submitted Material

All content produced with AI assistance, including text and visuals, must be properly attributed. Writers must ensure transparency by clearly differentiating between human-created and AI-generated material.

Compliance and Accountability

Authors should adhere to this policy to maintain ethical standards in using AI for research and manuscript preparation. Failure to comply could lead to editorial measures, such as submission rejection or other consequences.

Review and Updates

This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it stays current with changing ethical guidelines and technological progress. Any updates will be shared, and authors should keep up-to-date with the newest requirements.
